Welcome to the Erasmus MC Rare Disease Center

With 57 centers of expertise, the Erasmus MC Rare Disease Center is the leading rare disease center in the Netherlands.

We bring together knowledge and experience from all 57 centers of expertise in our Rare Disease Center. This helps us to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Why rare?

We do not consider rare diseases to be rare. We are home to 57 accredited centers of expertise for rare diseases, the highest number in the Netherlands. We also hold a leading position in Europe: we are involved in 22 of the 24 European networks for rare diseases.

There are many different types of rare diseases. They can occur in various organs, in tissue and in blood. Our ambition is to share knowledge: if we bring together the knowledge from all our centers of expertise, we can make great steps towards improving the quality of care. This is facilitated by our central Rare Disease Center. Our goal is to ensure our patients have the best possible future outcomes, by providing faster diagnoses and innovative, high-quality healthcare.
