Lisa will conduct research into the enterovirus. Enteroviruses infect millions of people every year and can cause serious and life-threatening neurological diseases. There is no knowledge about which brain cells enteroviruses infect, how they spread through the brain, and how brain cells respond to the virus infection.
Lisa Bauer: 'That is why I study which specific brain cells can be infected by enteroviruses and how viruses can move from cell to cell. This project is an essential step in understanding how enteroviruses cause neuronal complications. It will aid in the development of antiviral therapies.”
