Introduction

I am Medical Oncologist and staff member at the Erasmus MC Cancer Institute. My research focus is Genito-Urinary Oncology, predominantly Urinary Cancers. Next to involvement in translational and clinical studies in GU Oncology, I am also principle investigator in early clinical trials focusing on GU cancer. Examples are studies with new targeted therapies or radionuclide therapies. 

I am heading the Advanced Urothelial Cancer Working group of the Dutch Uro-Oncology Studygroup (DUOS) and I am involved in the EORTC-Genitourinary Cancers Group. I supervise PhD students in the field of GU Cancer research. 

As Medical Coordinator I am involved at the Clinical Trial Center Erasmus MC. 
 

Field(s) of expertise

My research focusses on clinical and translational  research in GU cancer. I am currently involved in a variety of clinical studies, in a multidisciplinary setting together with colleges from inside and outside the department, and also studies in collaboration with industry. 

I have a collaboration with oncologists, urologists, radiotherapeutic specialists in a national context.

Education and career

I earned my medical degree at the University of Maastricht and specialized in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Erasmus MC.
Since 2020 I am Staff Member of the dept. of Medical Oncology and in 2022 I obtained my PhD on research in GU cancers. 

Teaching activities

I am involved in teaching students, fellows and (specialized) nurses.

  • Chair of the Advanced Urothelial Cancer Working group of the Dutch Uro-Oncology Studygroup (DUOS).
  • Member of a range of professional societies and committees (American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO),  EORTC GUCG,
  • Member Scientific Counsel Gilead Research Scholars program

About my research

The research program in Genito-urinary Oncology comprises the entire spectrum of pre-clinical and phase 1-3 clinical trials, both Industry as well as investigator initiated studies. There is well-established collaboration with the Departments of Urology, Pathology, Radiotherapy, Laboratory of Immunology and Laboratory of Translational Cancer Genomics. There are national and international collaborations.
